Upgrading IFS Applications 2004-1 to 9
upgrade from IFS Applications 2004-1 (on Oracle 9i) to 9 (on 12c). Yes, that's a big jump! Four major versions in fact, and of course the Apps 9 only has upgrade scripts from 7, so the upgrade would have to be done in two steps: - 2004-1 -> Apps 7 -> Apps 9,
- 2004-1 -> Apps 7.5 -> Apps 9 or
- 2004-1 -> Apps 8 -> Apps 9

We call it a “2 step upgrade”. A side is 2004 to Apps 8 SP1. (By going all the way to 8, vs 75 or 7, you get upgrade scripts from Apps 8 that may have patches in them that would not be in the 75 ARCHIVE. (You can go to 8 SP2; but we didn’t market that in US, except for the Foundation components). B side is 8 SP2 to Apps 9 UPD2. You will need to end up in a Unicode database for Apps 9, so if a Unicode conversion is needed, that can be tricky as most DBAs have never had to do one. The R&D recommended approach of using Oracle DMU (data migration utility) has proven to be not usable by my team as well as by some of my customers.
From a UK perspective, we are following the same method as Steve advises for IFS NA, 2004-1 -> Apps 8 -> Apps 9.
